Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit Installation - 2016 Lincoln MKZ- Video

Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit Installation - 2016 Lincoln MKZ

Hi there, Lincoln owners. Today on your 2016 Lincoln MKZ, we're going to be installing Roadmaster's Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit.This is one of the major components needed to flat tow your MKZ behind your motorhome. In addition to your baseplate, you're also going to need your diode wiring, your supplemental braking system, your safety cables, and your tow bar to connect them together. This is what our base plate is going to look like when it's installed. The majority of the base plate is going to be completely hidden behind your front fascia, and it's going to be a Direct-Connect face plate, so your tow bars are going to connect directly to the arms here. What's nice about this compared to your crossbar connection, the crossbar connection is going to require a little bit more assembly with the crossbar attaching to the base plate after it's installed, and then if you want to remove it, there's a little bit more involved removing the crossbar. With the Direct-Connect style, if you want to get rid of these two to give you a little bit more stock appearance, you simply pull the pin, give it a twist, and they pop right out. To put them back in, you just push them in, twist them until they lock in place. more

Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit Installation - 2015 Lincoln MKX

Today on our 2015 Lincoln MKX, we're going to be installing Roadmaster's XL base plate Kit, part number 4408-1. A baseplate is one of five major components needed to properly flat tow your vehicle, the others being a tow bar, safety cables, a braking system, and wiring for your taillights. This base plate is going to allow you to connect your vehicle behind your motor home so you can tow it with you wherever you go. The base plate is going to install behind the bumper, so you're only going to be able to see the tube sticking out that you see here. This will be the interface that your tow bars will connect to. You can pick up many different tow bar styles here at etrailer.com. Located at the bottom of the tube is a place to go for your safety chain. Included with it, you're going to receive some small safety chain extensions and this will help keep the safety chain away from your vehicle so it won't cause any damage to the front of your fascia.Coming out of the tubes in your base plate is the quick disconnect that is included with the base plate. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Lincoln MKX we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms, part number RM-524447-4. Keep in mind, this is only one component of our flat tow setup. You're going to need a base plate and a braking system, along with the tow bar wiring. Here's what our base plate looks like once we have it installed. Now, I do want to mention that these other accessories on the front here are not included in the kit, but our base plate is going to serve as the attachment point on our Lincoln so we can hook our tow bar up. As you can see with the arms removed, it's going to have a nice sleek look on the front so we're not going to have to worry about those big arms sticking out whenever we're not towing. Now, on our arms we already went ahead and installed the bracket that's going to hook up for our cross bar, but the way we're going to install the arms is we're just going to slide them in and there's going to be that silver pin, we're going to push in until it presses that pin in, and then slowly rotate it until it locks into place. Now, the brackets here that we mounted to the removable arms, as well as the cross bar, they are going to be sold separately. more

If we push our bracket all the way forward so that the pin is resting against our tube, then we can turn it, and the pin will release and lock it into place. There's plenty of room to mount all of our electrical connections. It comes with a bracket to mount your plug as well as your breakaway switch, and it has built in safety chain loops. more

Today in our 2016 Lincoln MKX, we'll be installing the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit with removable arms, part number BX2659. Here's what our base plate looks like installed. As you can see it's nice and tucked up behind our bumper cover, it's very well hidden. We only have our safety cable attachment points here, and our tow-bar arm attachments there. Then we have our bracket here, where we can mount any electrical connection that we need for our towed vehicle lighting system. Now we just want to drive our vehicle normally, we don't want to tow it behind our RV. What we can do is insert these included plastic plugs into where the removable arms go, and this will help keep any dirt and debris from entering there, making it difficult for you to insert your removable arms. more

A few things to know about our install, the fascia or the bumper cover, the ACC box, coolant lines, and windshield washer fluid reservoir are removed, but then are reinstalled after the baseplate is installed. Now, the mental bumper is removed and not reinstalled because the baseplate takes its place. Well have to drill out some large holes to make room for access for our fasteners as well.To start off were going to go ahead and remove this bolt and these three plastic fasteners. This is the driver side and were going to do the same thing on passenger side. Just let the weight of the screwdriver sit on top of the center part here. more
